What is your focus?
There are the two sayings: “The grass is greener on the other side,” and “The grass is greener where you water it.” But which one is true?
They both are; it just depends on where you are in life.
One statement keeps you wondering where change will lead you, but also promotes action.
The other is a reminder to pause and redirect your focus into the life you have.
I feel I am at a turning point between the two, and though it is likely I will switch between both mindsets as the days go on, I wanted to capture these thoughts as they happen.
I have been so focused on the life I am not living and what my life could be like. So focused on what, in my mind, is an ideal life, and focusing on all the things I do not have. I spent so much of my energy thinking about what I’m “missing” that it is as if I lost years of my life fearing exactly that. I have been stuck in my mind instead of living life, letting it all pass me by.
I have searched for answers through many avenues: journaling, therapy, deep introspection, change of routines, readings, podcasts, and the list goes on. All this effort, trying to seek an answer to a question I never truly understood, and through this, I lost the one thing we never get back: time.
Though I still want to strive for excellence, to be the best version of myself and to live a life that is true to me, my wants and needs, I begin to ask: how can helping others become the thing that drives my success, and what does it mean to do so?
Not to sacrifice yourself for the good of others, not to empty your glass to keep theirs full. I’m talking about doing things that stay true to my values, but for others to drive me beyond any limit that self-motivation could provide. Because putting in work to help others will push me harder than I would ever do if it were only for myself.
How can I help those in need? How can I help those I love and care about be healthier, smarter, independent, confident, courageous, and live a better quality of life? By focusing on where I am now, guided by my values to inspire others, and becoming someone they can count on.
I don’t know where life will take me, and I have spent so much of the present moment focused on my future and past. Whether you are guided by faith or guided by chance, what matters is that you roll with the punches in life and keep moving forward using the tools and knowledge you have at this very moment to inspire those you love. Through that, you will succeed beyond anything you could’ve imagined for yourself.
Do this for you by doing this for them. Focus on the ground you stand on.
